Karenza catanach

I originally started pole fitness in 2008 after a friend attended a few classes and told me how much fun it was.  Having been a gymnast as a child I took to the pole straight away looking at it as another form of gymnastic apparatus, and I was soon addicted!

I started attending classes at Spin City Exeter in 2010 and shortly after I was invited to train as a Spin City instructor. I qualified as a Pole Dance Community approved instructor in 2011, and in 2014 I took over the running of Spin City Exeter with Krissy, and I have not looked back!  My favourite thing about teaching is helping students master moves that I know they have been struggling with, and seeing their sense of achievement.  I enjoy knowing that I have been able to help students reach their goals in a safe environment.

I am always looking to progress and improve my pole skills by attending masterclasses with a variety of professional instructors and by attending pole jams at other pole schools around the country.  My current aim is to improve my flexibility so that I will be able to master some of the more advanced moves that I have been working on. The best thing about pole is that the possibilities are endless; there is always room for improvement and something new to learn – who knew exercising could be so much fun?!

After attending nearly every lesson at Spin City Exeter since 2011, I was given the opportunity to train to become an instructor and to share my love and enthusiasm for the sport with our students. In 2014 I joined Karenza in taking over the running of Spin City Exeter with the aim of making it even bigger and better!

I am a perfect example of a student with no dance or gymnastic background, and I firmly believe that if you come to a class with a positive attitude and want to have fun whilst exercising, then pole is for you too.

KELLY KNIGHT

I became hooked on pole fitness after attending my first ever class at Spin City Exeter in 2013.  I have attended every class I possibly could ever since and it is often joked that I should set up a camp bed in the studio as I spend more time there than I do at home! I was invited to join the Spin City Exeter instructor team in 2016, and after starting my instructor training immediately I qualified as a Spin City instructor in February 2017. It is an honour and privilege to join such a wonderful pole family.

When I started pole I had no upper body strength, no coordination, and had no dance or gymnastics background, but with determination and support from the Spin City Exeter team I am where I am today: stronger and more confident than I have ever been! Pole is an addiction and I have adapted all of my non pole training to help me become even stronger and fitter, in order to progress and develop as both a pole dancer and now a pole instructor.  I aim to use my experience to help my students progress in their own pole journeys.

Julie ANNE

I started my pole fitness journey around 2010 and immediately developed an addiction. I have always been quite athletic and loved sports as a teenager, however as I moved into adulthood I never really stuck at anything, until I discovered pole. I immediately saw how much fun it was and was quickly discovering new things that my body could do. I started attending pole classes once a week, then twice a week and then at every opportunity I could! I had only been learning pole for four months when I did my first public performance; this was the moment I realised pole was going to be a lifelong love of mine.

Just two years after starting my pole journey I decided to train levels 1, 2 & 3 in pole dance instruction with Pole Passion Fitness and I went on to teach pole for around four years at a dance studio in Totnes. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching pole to both men and women of varying abilities during this time, but I sadly has to give this up when I returned to university during a career change.  Now that a few years have passed in my new job, I feel ready to take on the challenge of teaching pole again, and I can’t wait!

My favourite part of teaching pole is helping students accomplish moves and seeing that sense of achievement and satisfaction in the studio.  I honestly do not know of another form of fitness where the environment is so supportive and you see your bodies achieving what you may have previously thought as ‘the impossible’.

I love learning power moves and developing routines on spinning pole.  I am currently working on my flexibility so that I can achieve some of the moves currently on my wish list.  One of the best things about pole is that the possibilities are endless and there is always a new move or combo to try!

KELLY jean

I attended my first class at Spin City Exeter at the beginning of 2019 and fell in love with pole instantly. I had been into various sports and dance classes as a child, however becoming a young mum of two meant that I had very little time throughout my twenties to take on a hobby and struggled to find anything that I wanted to stick with.

After a couple of years attending every class I could and training relentlessly at home throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, I was given the incredible opportunity to become a Spin City certified instructor and begin teaching at Spin City Exeter. For me this was a dream come true!

I enjoy all areas of pole and consider myself an all-rounder. I love to perform tricks, both strength and flexibility based, dynamic spins and flowy sequences on static and spinning pole. I have particularly fallen in love with the art of heels and have enjoyed developing and crafting my own style, into which I incorporate my passion for music, style, self expression and fluid movement. This is something I continue to work on for myself and the thing I enjoy most about teaching by being able to help others find their own way in their pole journey.

I always encourage students to embrace and celebrate their individualism, as I truly believe that pole can be for everybody and every body. I promote an inclusive, fun and carefree attitude in my classes, as pole is not only amazing for fitness and self confidence, but it is also the most supportive and embracing community I have ever been a part of. I have found life long friends in my pole buddies, instructors and students and can’t wait to see what is yet to come for us all!
